Three ways to get a South African IP
Rotating residential
Home broadband IPs in all nine provinces. Best for scraping, price monitoring and SERP tracking.
- Province, city, ZIP, ISP and ASN targeting
- New IP per request or sticky sessions
- OS fingerprint targeting (Windows, macOS, Linux, Android)
Rotating mobile
Mobile IPs on Vodacom, MTN, Cell C and Telkom. Best for social media and the strictest anti-bot systems.
- Province, city, ZIP, carrier and ASN targeting
- OS fingerprint targeting
- Rotate on demand or keep a sticky session
Rotating datacenter
Fast, low-cost South African datacenter IPs. Best for high-volume jobs on sites with light bot protection.
- South Africa country-level targeting
- New IP per request or sticky sessions
- Lowest cost per GB for bulk traffic
- Plans from 40 GB for $25
Need the same IP for weeks at a time? Static residential proxies are not offered in South Africa. They are sold in other markets such as the UK and the US. In South Africa, use sticky sessions to hold the same IP on any of the three proxy types above.
South Africa at a glance
Why a local IP changes what you see
South Africa has a web of its own. Search results on Google.co.za, prices on Takealot and Makro, and the ads served to South African users all depend on where a request comes from. A visitor from London or Nairobi sees a different page, often in another currency.
How South Africans get online matters just as much. According to Stats SA, 82.1% of households had internet access in 2024, but only 17.4% had a fixed line at home. Most local traffic therefore arrives over mobile networks, so a mobile IP is what an ordinary South African visitor looks like.
Sites also check what kind of network a visitor is on. Data centre traffic is flagged as a bot on well-protected sites; a Telkom, Afrihost or rain home connection looks like a local customer, because it is one.
| Fact | Figure | Why it matters for proxy work |
|---|---|---|
| Population | 63.52 million (mid-2026 estimate) | A large, young market, so volume is there when a job needs many IPs. |
| Largest province | Gauteng, 16.3 million (25.7%) | A quarter of the country lives around Johannesburg and Pretoria, but Cape Town and Durban results still differ. |
| Capitals | Pretoria, Cape Town and Bloemfontein | Government, parliament and the courts sit in three different cities, so there is no single “capital” location to test from. |
| Currency | South African rand (ZAR) | Local prices move with the rand, so they have to be read on the South African version of a site. |
| VAT | 15% standard rate | Advertised prices must include VAT, so the rand price a local shopper sees differs from what the same site shows abroad. |
| Official languages | 12, including South African Sign Language since 2023 | Most big local sites are in English, so the differences you are checking are prices, stock, ads and rankings rather than language. |
| Mobile networks | Vodacom, MTN, Cell C, Telkom, rain | We reach the first four directly. rain is not in our mobile pool yet. |
Sources: Statistics South Africa (Mid-year population estimates 2026; General Household Survey 2024); South African Reserve Bank (the rand); South African Revenue Service (VAT rate, kept at 15% after the planned 2025 increase was withdrawn); Parliament of South Africa (Constitution Eighteenth Amendment, 2023); ICASA (licensed mobile network operators); South African Government (seats of government).
What our South Africa coverage actually reaches
Read from the live API, not a brochure
Most providers list South Africa as a single checkbox. Here you can pin a session to the province, city and network your target cares about, as listed by the same API our dashboard uses.
All nine provinces
165 targetable cities and towns
Coverage goes well beyond Johannesburg and Cape Town. Here are 72 of the 165 cities and towns you can target:
Townships and suburbs such as Soweto, Umlazi, Thembisa, Sandton and Centurion are separate targets. Renamed cities appear under their official names, with the older name in brackets.
Mobile carriers
South Africa has five mobile network operators: Vodacom, MTN, Cell C, Telkom and rain. Our mobile pool reaches the first four directly, plus AirMobile, Afrihost’s mobile brand, which runs on the MTN network. rain is not in the mobile pool at the moment, although rain connections do appear in the residential pool.
Fixed-line ISPs
The national names are covered: Telkom, Vodacom, MTN, Cell C and rain home internet, fibre ISPs such as Afrihost, Axxess, MWEB, RSAWEB, Cool Ideas and Vox, and networks like Frogfoot, MetroFibre Networx and Herotel. Regional providers fill in the rest, from Ballito ISP and Dolphin Coast Wireless on the KwaZulu-Natal north coast to Limpo WiFi and Letaba Networks in Limpopo and Vaal Networking in the Vaal Triangle. Counting each network once, that is more than 160.
Why the network mix matters. Anti-bot systems look at which network a request comes from, and a pool built on one or two big providers is easy to spot. IPs on small regional ISPs are what make your traffic look like ordinary South African households.
What teams use South African proxies for
Common workloads on our South African network
E-commerce price monitoring
Track prices, stock and delivery fees on Takealot, Makro and Checkers Sixty60 exactly as South African shoppers see them, in rand and with 15% VAT included.
Local SEO & SERP tracking
Check Google.co.za rankings, map packs and ads from Johannesburg, Cape Town or Durban instead of a generic “South Africa” location.
Property & vehicle listings
Collect listings from Property24, Private Property, AutoTrader and Gumtree to follow rents, house prices and used-car values province by province.
Ad verification
Confirm that South African campaigns render on the placements you paid for, in the right cities, and catch fraudulent ones early.
Social media management
Run South African accounts from mobile IPs on Vodacom, MTN, Cell C or Telkom, so logins look like a local phone rather than a server.
Travel & flight pricing
Compare the fares and room rates FlySafair and LekkeSlaap show to visitors in Cape Town, Durban or the Garden Route against what they show abroad.

Free South Africa proxy lists vs paid South African proxies
Why free lists rarely work on South African sites
Search for a free proxy South Africa list and you will find plenty, but most entries are open servers already scanned and abused by thousands of other users. They go offline within hours and are blacklisted by the South African sites you want to reach.
| Free South Africa proxy lists | ProxyEmpire South African proxies | |
|---|---|---|
| IP source | Open or hijacked servers, mostly data centres | Real South African homes and Vodacom, MTN, Cell C and Telkom SIM cards |
| Uptime | Minutes to hours before an IP disappears | Always-on pool, with rotating or sticky sessions |
| Blocks | Usually blacklisted on major South African sites | Looks like an ordinary local visitor |
| Targeting | Country at best | Province, city, ZIP, ISP, ASN and OS fingerprint |
| Security | Unknown operator can log or alter your traffic | Authenticated access over HTTP(S) or SOCKS5 |

South Africa proxy FAQ
Straight answers
What is a South African proxy (SA proxy)?
A South African proxy, also called an SA proxy or ZA proxy, gives you a South African IP address so websites treat you as a local visitor. A South Africa residential proxy routes your traffic through a real household’s connection on a network like Telkom, Afrihost or Vodacom instead of a data centre, so it is far less likely to be blocked.
Can I target specific South African provinces, cities or ISPs?
Yes. You can target all nine provinces, 165 cities and towns, and more than 160 local ISPs, from Telkom and rain to Afrihost and small regional wireless networks. Residential and mobile proxies can also be targeted by ZIP code, ASN and OS fingerprint. Datacenter proxies are country-level.
Do you offer South African mobile proxies?
Yes. Rotating mobile proxies are available on Vodacom, MTN, Cell C and Telkom, plus AirMobile, which runs on the MTN network. rain, the fifth mobile network, is not in the mobile pool. Mobile IPs are shared by many real subscribers, which makes them among the hardest IPs for websites to block.
How much do South Africa proxies cost?
Rotating residential starts at $1.50/GB on larger plans, rotating mobile at $2.00/GB and rotating datacenter at $0.35/GB. South African targeting is included at no extra charge, and you can start with a $1.97 trial.
Do you have South African datacenter proxies?
Yes. Rotating datacenter proxies with South African IPs start at $25 for 40 GB and go down to $0.35/GB on larger plans. They are targeted at country level and suit high-volume work on sites with light bot protection.
Can I keep the same South African IP?
Yes. Rotating residential, mobile and datacenter proxies all support sticky sessions, which keep the same South African IP across requests instead of switching on every request. Static residential IPs are not offered in South Africa; they are available in other markets such as the UK and the US.
Which protocols and tools are supported?
HTTP, HTTPS and SOCKS5. The proxies work with any scraper, headless browser, anti-detect browser or HTTP library, and there is no limit on concurrent sessions.
What support do I get?
Real people, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Support is staffed around the clock rather than left to bots or a business-hours ticket queue.
Why not use a free South Africa proxy?
Free proxies are slow, blocked on most major sites, and often run by operators who log or resell your traffic. For anything work-related, a paid residential proxy is safer and far more reliable.
Is using a proxy legal in South Africa?
Proxies themselves are legal in South Africa. What matters is how you use them: respect websites’ terms of service, and follow POPIA, South Africa’s data protection law, when you collect personal information.
