What is real estate web scraping?
Public property data, collected at scale
Real estate web scraping is collecting publicly available property data from listing portals and real estate websites, such as asking prices, rents, property size, features, location and days on market, with a scraper instead of by hand. Five habits for clean property data
Collect public listing data only. Stick to pages anyone can see without logging in. Account areas, saved searches and paid data are off limits.
Keep facts, not creative content. Prices, sizes, locations and dates are data. Listing photos and descriptions usually belong to the agent or portal, so don’t republish them.
Target the market you study. Portals rank and price listings by location. Set the proxy’s city or ZIP code to the area you are researching.
Pace your requests. Spread collection over time, cache pages you already have and back off on errors. Property portals react fast to bursts.
Handle personal data carefully. Agent and owner contact details are personal data. Collect only what you need, keep it secure and respect deletion requests.
