AbeBooks API Β· Public data Β· Proxies
AbeBooks has APIs, but only for sellers and select partners
AbeBooks offers APIs, but not a public one for searching its listings. Sellers get the Inventory Update API and Order Update API to manage their own listings and orders, and the Purchase API with AbeBooks Search Web Services is limited to select partners. To collect public listing pages, such as prices and availability of editions across sellers, you run your own scraper through residential proxies.
Residential from $1.50/GB, mobile from $2.00/GB. No concurrent session limit, and unused bandwidth rolls over.
Not affiliated with AbeBooks. ProxyEmpire doesn’t sell a AbeBooks API or scraper. We provide the residential and mobile proxies, and the proxy management API, that your own scraper or data tool runs on. Our Scraping API is coming soon.
Does AbeBooks have an API?
The short answer, and what it means for you
Yes, but not a public one for data collection. AbeBooks, the Amazon-owned marketplace for used, rare and out-of-print books, gives its sellers two APIs: the Inventory Update API for managing listings and the Order Update API for orders and returns. Both work with the seller’s own account and API key.
AbeBooks also has a Purchase API that lets partners place orders programmatically, together with AbeBooks Search Web Services for listing lookups, but AbeBooks says access is limited to select partners. If you’re neither a seller nor an approved partner, public listing pages are how you track prices and availability across sellers and editions.

How to collect public AbeBooks data with proxies
Three steps, then four habits
- Open the dashboardStart the $1.97 trial, then choose rotating residential or mobile, or create an API token.
- Target the right marketSet the country of the AbeBooks site you collect, such as the US or UK, so you see its local prices and currency.
- Plug the proxies into your scraperAdd them to your scraper, headless browser or data pipeline over HTTP(S) or SOCKS5, with a new IP per request.
Sellers: use the APIs. For your own listings and orders, the Inventory and Order Update APIs are the right tools.
Collect per site. AbeBooks runs country sites with local currencies. Match the proxy country to the site you collect.
Pace your requests. Spread collection over time, cache pages you already have and back off on errors.
Keep to public listings. Account, order and checkout pages are off limits.
Follow AbeBooks’s terms and the laws that apply to you, including copyright and privacy laws such as the GDPR and the CCPA. ProxyEmpire doesn’t support scraping private data, spam or any illegal activity.
