CAPTCHA proxies are proxies whose IPs look like ordinary visitors, so websites challenge them less often. Sites decide whether to show a CAPTCHA from signals such as the IP’s reputation, whether it belongs to a datacenter, how fast requests arrive and what the browser looks like. A proxy controls the first of those. To find the best captcha proxies in 2026 we compared 12 providers on the IP types they sell, how precisely you can target, how long you can hold one IP, and price. For a ready-made start, see ProxyEmpire’s rotating residential proxies.

The residential price column shows each provider’s regular rate on its smallest plan, then the lowest regular rate it publishes at 1 TB or less. Bright Data is shown at its current 50% discount (list $8.00 → $5.00/GB); other promotions are covered in the reviews, and mobile prices in the reviews are today’s prices, including ProxyEmpire’s standing 50% off. No provider publishes a CAPTCHA rate we could check, so none is quoted. Checked on 26–29 September 2026. CAPTCHA-solving services and scraping APIs are not ranked here, because they are not proxy networks.
How we compared CAPTCHA proxy providers
What decides how often you are challengedSites challenge IPs they do not trust, so we looked first at the IP types each provider sells and any quality filtering it publishes, then at targeting, sessions and price.

Why websites show CAPTCHAs
The signals behind a challengeAnti-bot systems score every visit, and a CAPTCHA appears when the score says “automated”. Five signals move it most:
- IP reputation: addresses with a history of spam, abuse or heavy automation stay on blocklists and are challenged on sight.
- Datacenter ranges: IPs registered to hosting companies are easy to identify, and few real visitors browse from a server.
- Request rate: hundreds of requests a minute from one IP, or perfectly regular timing, look nothing like a person.
- Shared or abused IPs: free lists, public VPNs and oversold proxies put many strangers on one address, so each inherits the others’ behaviour.
- Browser fingerprint: a headless browser, missing cookies, or a timezone and language that do not match the IP’s location all raise the score.
A proxy fixes the IP side: reputation, IP type and how traffic is spread. The rate and the browser are up to you. Google has its own “unusual traffic” page, covered in our guide to the best Google proxies, and we explain the mobile side in handling CAPTCHAs with mobile proxies.
Which proxy types see the fewest CAPTCHAs
Match the IP type to the site| Proxy type | Why sites trust it | CAPTCHAs | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Datacenter | They don’t: the IP belongs to a hosting company | Most often | Lightly protected sites, speed |
| Rotating residential | A household broadband line from a real ISP | Far less often | Scraping, price and search checks |
| 4G/5G mobile | Carriers share each IP among many real phone users | Least often | The strictest sites and mobile checks |
| Static residential (ISP) | An ISP-registered IP that only you use | Rarely, if the IP is clean | Accounts that sign in every day |
Mobile IPs sit behind carrier-grade NAT, so one address can carry many genuine subscribers at once, and blocking it would lock out real customers. That is why sites challenge rotating mobile proxies least, although they cost more per GB. For logins, static residential proxies keep one clean address all month, which looks more natural than a new IP at every sign-in.
How to see fewer CAPTCHAs with proxies
Good practice that works with any provider- Target the expected location. Use the country, city or carrier the site or account expects, not a random one.
- Use sticky sessions for signed-in flows. Keep one IP through a login, checkout or form, and rotate per request only for public pages.
- Pace your requests. Add pauses, spread load across IPs and back off when the first challenge or 429 error appears instead of retrying hard.
- Keep browser profiles clean and consistent. Match timezone and language to the proxy, keep cookies per profile, and give each account its own profile and IP.
- Test on your own targets. A small trial on the sites you actually use tells you more than any pool size.
A proxy lowers how often a CAPTCHA appears; it does not answer one. Solving services are a separate product that we don’t cover here. If you collect search data at scale, our guide to the best Google scraping proxies goes further. Each site’s terms apply to automated access, whichever proxy you use.
Free proxies and CAPTCHAs
Why we don’t publish a listFree proxy lists are the fastest way to meet CAPTCHAs. They are mostly datacenter servers and misconfigured devices shared by thousands of strangers, so they are already on blocklists, and the operator can see or change your traffic. That is why we don’t publish a list: it would be flagged or gone within days. For a real test, use a trial instead: ProxyEmpire’s costs $1.97 for residential and mobile traffic, Byteful gives 1 GB free and Decodo offers three free days.
CAPTCHA proxy FAQ
Short answersWhat are CAPTCHA proxies?
Proxies chosen because their IPs trigger few CAPTCHAs, usually residential, mobile or clean ISP IPs. They are ordinary proxies, not a special product.
What is the best proxy to avoid CAPTCHAs?
ProxyEmpire, in our 2026 comparison: 30M+ residential IPs from $1.50/GB, 4M+ 4G and 5G mobile IPs from $2.00/GB, ZIP and carrier targeting included, and a $1.97 trial.
Can a proxy stop CAPTCHAs completely?
No. A clean IP lowers how often you are challenged, but request rate, browser fingerprint and account behaviour still count. No provider can promise zero CAPTCHAs.
Are mobile proxies better than residential for CAPTCHAs?
Usually, on the strictest sites, because many real phone users share each carrier IP. Residential costs less per GB and is enough for most work.
Why do I still get CAPTCHAs with residential proxies?
Most often the request rate is too high, the browser profile gives automation away, or the IP’s location does not match the account. Slow down, fix the profile and target the right city.
Do datacenter proxies work on CAPTCHA-heavy sites?
They connect, but sites can identify server ranges easily and challenge them far more often. Keep datacenter IPs for lightly protected sites.
Should I rotate IPs or use sticky sessions?
Rotate per request for public pages you fetch in volume. Use a sticky session or a static IP for anything signed in, because an IP that changes mid-session is itself a warning sign.
Is a CAPTCHA proxy the same as a CAPTCHA solver?
No. A proxy changes the IP your traffic comes from, before any challenge. A solver is a separate service that answers challenges after they appear, and it is not covered here.
How much do CAPTCHA proxies cost?
Among these 12 providers, residential runs from about $3 to $7 per GB on small plans and $1.45 to $3.36 at 1 TB. Mobile costs more: ProxyEmpire’s is $4.50 falling to $2.00/GB.
Residential and 4G/5G mobile IPs that sites trust
30M+ residential IPs from $1.50/GB and 4M+ mobile IPs from $2.00/GB, with city, ZIP, ISP and carrier targeting, sticky sessions and 24/7 support from real people. Try ProxyEmpire for $1.97.
