The UK at a glance

Why a local IP changes what you see

The United Kingdom is one of the most online retail markets in the world: in August 2026, 28.8% of retail spending in Great Britain went through the internet. Results on Google.co.uk, prices on Amazon.co.uk, Argos and John Lewis, listings on Rightmove and Auto Trader and the ads served to British users all depend on where the request comes from. Since the UK left the EU that gap has widened: British sites price in pounds, apply UK VAT at 20% and quote UK-only shipping, and many EU retailers now run a separate UK storefront.

British sites also check what kind of network a visitor is on. On well-protected sites, traffic from a data centre is flagged as a bot straight away. Traffic from a BT, Sky or Virgin Media home connection looks like an ordinary UK customer, because that is what it is.

Fact Figure Why it matters for proxy work
Population 69.3 million (mid-2024) A large pool across four nations, so city and ISP targeting samples real regional differences.
Currency Pound sterling (GBP) The UK never adopted the euro. Only a British IP reliably shows prices in pounds with UK VAT and delivery.
Nations England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland All four are separate targeting options, each with its own retail, property and media landscape.
Mobile networks EE, O2, Vodafone, Three All four consumer brands are on our network. Vodafone and Three merged in May 2025 but still run as separate networks.
EU membership Left on 31 January 2020 UK pricing, VAT and shipping now diverge from EU sites, which makes UK-versus-EU price scraping useful.
Online retail 28.8% of retail sales (August 2026) One of the highest online shares anywhere, so UK e-commerce data covers a lot of real spending.
Broadband 87% gigabit-capable, 78% full fibre (July 2025) A crowded ISP market: dozens of smaller fibre networks sit alongside the big four.

Sources: Office for National Statistics (UK population, mid-2024; Retail sales, Great Britain, August 2026); Bank of England (pound sterling); Ofcom, Connected Nations 2025 (coverage at July 2025); UK Government (EU withdrawal on 31 January 2020); Vodafone Group (completion of the Vodafone and Three merger, 31 May 2025).

What our UK coverage actually reaches

Read from the live API, not a brochure

Most providers list the UK as a single country checkbox. Here you can pin a session to the nation, town and network your target cares about. This is the targeting available today, pulled from the same API our dashboard uses.

All four UK nations

  • England
  • Scotland
  • Wales
  • Northern Ireland

The region level for the UK is the nation, not the county. For anything finer, use city or postcode targeting: 984 individual towns and cities are addressable.

984 targetable towns and cities

Coverage goes far past London and Manchester. London boroughs such as Camden, Islington and Hackney can be targeted one by one, and so can Scottish islands, Welsh market towns and Northern Irish county towns. The 70 best-known locations:

Seaside towns, university cities and commuter belts are each separate targets. That matters for travel, insurance and delivery pricing, where a visitor in Cornwall often sees different offers from someone in central London.

Mobile carriers

  • EE (BT)
  • O2
  • Vodafone
  • Three
  • Sky Mobile

Three network groups sit behind four consumer brands: EE, BT’s mobile network, which our dashboard lists under BT; O2, run by Virgin Media O2; and VodafoneThree, formed when Vodafone UK and Three UK merged on 31 May 2025. Vodafone and Three still sell separately on separate radio networks, so they remain two distinct targets. Sky Mobile is a virtual operator on the O2 network.

Fixed-line ISPs

The large retail networks are all covered: BT, Sky Broadband, Virgin Media, TalkTalk, Vodafone UK and Plusnet. The UK also has an unusually deep bench of alternative fibre networks, many of them targetable too: Hyperoptic and Community Fibre in London, Gigaclear and Truespeed in rural England, KCOM in Hull, Fibrus in Northern Ireland, plus Zen Internet, toob, YouFibre and Trooli. Counting obvious duplicates as one, that is more than 60 distinct UK networks.

Why network diversity matters. Anti-bot systems look at which network a request comes from. A pool made only of BT lines is easy to profile; real British households spread across a handful of national brands and dozens of regional fibre networks. Our pool mixes them the same way, so your requests blend in with ordinary UK users.

What teams use British proxies for

Common workloads on our UK network

E-commerce price monitoring

Track prices, stock and delivery fees on Amazon.co.uk, Argos, Currys and John Lewis exactly as British shoppers see them, in pounds and with UK VAT applied.

UK vs EU price comparison

Brands often run separate UK and EU storefronts since Brexit. Pair a British IP with an EU one to see both price lists side by side.

Local SEO & SERP tracking

Check Google.co.uk rankings, map packs and ads from London, Manchester, Edinburgh or Cardiff instead of a generic European location.

Ad verification

Confirm that campaigns targeted at the UK really render on the placements you paid for, and catch misplaced ads before they burn budget.

Social media management

Run UK accounts from mobile IPs on EE, O2, Vodafone or Three, or pin each account to its own static residential IP.

Property & motor research

Collect listings and asking prices from Rightmove, Zoopla and Auto Trader at scale without tripping CAPTCHAs or regional blocks.

Free UK proxy lists vs paid British proxies

Why free lists rarely work on UK sites

Free UK proxy lists are easy to find, but most entries are open servers that have been scanned and abused by thousands of other users. They go offline within hours and are already blacklisted by the British sites you want to reach.

Free UK proxy lists ProxyEmpire British proxies
IP source Open or hijacked servers, mostly data centres Real UK homes and EE, O2, Vodafone and Three SIM cards
Uptime Minutes to hours before an IP disappears Always-on pool, with rotating, sticky or static IPs

Targeting Country at best Nation, city, postcode, ISP, ASN and OS fingerprint
Security Unknown operator can log or alter your traffic Authenticated access over HTTP(S) or SOCKS5

UK proxy FAQ

Straight answers

What is a British proxy (UK proxy)?

A British proxy, or UK proxy, gives you a United Kingdom IP address so websites treat you as a local visitor. A UK residential proxy goes further: it routes your traffic through a real British household’s connection, so sites see a genuine local visitor on a network like BT, Sky or Virgin Media instead of a data centre. That makes it far less likely to be blocked or shown non-local content.

Can I target specific UK cities or ISPs?

Yes. You can target all four nations, 984 towns and cities (including individual London boroughs such as Camden, Islington and Hackney), and ISPs such as BT, Sky Broadband, Virgin Media and TalkTalk. Residential and mobile proxies can also be targeted by postcode, ASN and OS fingerprint. Datacenter and static residential proxies are country level.

Do you offer UK mobile proxies?

Yes. Rotating mobile proxies are available on EE (listed under BT, which owns it), O2, Vodafone and Three, plus the Sky Mobile virtual network. Mobile IPs are shared by many real subscribers, which makes them among the hardest to block.

How much do UK proxies cost?

Rotating residential starts at $1.50/GB on larger plans, rotating mobile at $2.00/GB and rotating datacenter at $0.35/GB. Static residential IPs cost $3.50 for a single IP and go down to $2.00 per IP a month at 2,000 IPs. UK targeting is included at no extra charge, and you can start with a $1.97 trial.

Do you have UK datacenter proxies?

Yes. Rotating datacenter proxies with UK IPs start at $25 for 40 GB and go down to $0.35/GB on larger plans. They are country level and suit high-volume work on lightly protected sites. For well-protected sites, use residential or mobile IPs instead.

Can I keep the same UK IP?

Yes, in two ways. Rotating residential, mobile and datacenter proxies all support sticky sessions, which keep the same British IP across requests instead of switching on every one. If you need a fixed UK IP, static residential proxies give you a dedicated residential IP for the whole month, with traffic included.

Which protocols and tools are supported?

HTTP, HTTPS and SOCKS5. The proxies work with any scraper, headless browser, anti-detect browser or HTTP library, and there is no limit on concurrent sessions.

Why not use a free UK proxy?

Free proxies are slow, blocked on most major sites, and often run by operators who log or resell your traffic. If you are not paying for the product, your data usually is the product. For anything work-related, a paid residential proxy is safer and far more reliable.

Is using a proxy legal in the UK?

Proxies themselves are legal in the United Kingdom. What matters is how you use them: respect websites’ terms of service, and follow UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act when collecting personal data.
